CHILDHOOD
1998–2001
These paintings were created based on family albums from my own childhood, later joined by themes from the childhood of my own children, whom I photographed myself. Family history, traits and customs passed down from generation to generation, family gatherings, Christmas, holidays, and distant vacations. Photographs from an idealized colorful year spent in the USA during childhood at the beginning of the normalization period. What is a real memory, and what is merely a memory of reality recorded in photographs or film?
To the reconstruction of my own childhood is added a psychoanalytic layer, as I was undergoing psychoanalysis at the time. What do we, as parents, pass on to our children?
