AT HOME
2007–2023
Themes of home, memory, childhood, and family recollections keep returning to me in elliptical cycles. It’s probably one of my core subjects — something one shouldn’t resist, as it’s never truly finished. Recently, I’ve added new paintings to those I made at the beginning of the millennium. This time, I no longer work so much with family photo albums; I invent more, deconstruct the scenes.
In the latest paintings, I extract intimately familiar objects — carriers of memory — from their original contexts and place them into more abstract settings. I try to simplify and empty things out. Windows remain important, and I’ve now added memories of the ever-present, barely surviving houseplants of my childhood.
